Fat Michael’s Place

I am a big fan of hole-in-the-wall restaurants and “Fat Michael’s Place” has been on my to-do list since I cant remember when. I’ve never made time to visit the place, nor chosen the perfect person to tag along.  ♥♡♥ (knowing that I live just 10 mins away form the place - bummer!)

After work today, we (my boyfriend and I) decided to have my car checked  at my “suking talyer” in Bangkal (Makati), bored to bits and pieces, I thought of this restaurant at random.

No reservations were made, no fancy clothes were worn and no datebook was filled out. We just decided to have a random lunch date. ❤ We just took the risk, asked around and found the place.  At no time, we found ourselves amazed by how the restaurant welcomed us.

❧Three words - Cozy, Quaint and Intimate. ❤

 My initial reaction was “e-bla-blog ko, to!”.. The place was too nice not to share to the world!

Well it’s not your typical posh and elegant date place, but it’s an intimate venue for couples or close knit group of friends who just wants to have a full course meal that’s affordable yet amazingly delicious.

As the old adage say, “Do not judge a book by its cover”….. 

Do not let the entrance or the facade  deceive you. It may have a humble greeting, but when inside, it will take you to a place romantic and memorable.   

       

Dine a la carte, from soups, to salads, to the delectable main course. They even offer an all day breakfast menu item. =)

 We asked the waitress what the best seller was and we ordered what she suggested. 

 I ordered Beef Salpicao (₱295.00) + Garlic Rice (₱28.00).  Most of the time, I would ask for Worcestershire and Tabasco to accentuate the flavor of my dish, but this time,  the beef was so tasteful that seasoning was not necessary.  The meal itself was cooked to perfection, a major treat to the palate. It was sprinkled with their special sauce, extra virgin olive oil,  garlic, and I think there was even a hint of wine added to it. ❤

 

 My boyfriend ordered the waitress’s second suggestion, Rosemary Herbed Chicken (₱145.00) +  Garlic Rice (₱28.00). It was such a flavorful piece of chicken, no joke. If it was a girl, it would be oozing with sex appeal. *grin* The chicken, I would say, was marinated with just the right amount of herbs and spices.  Splashed with their very own mouth watering gravy, I could not help but take some portions away from my boyfriend,… towards my plate. *bigger grin* 

 

 

 Based on the online reviews I’ve read in the past, going to “Fat Michael’s Place” without a reservation would be a date-fail. Not true if you go on a weekday. But if you opt to have lunch or dinner here on weekends, Friday or Saturday, call them for reservations.  The restaurant can only cater to a guest of less than 30 (that’s just my estimate) on the first floor, and about  12-15 on the second floor.  The second floor by the way can be reserved for a minimum fee of  ₱5,000, consumable, in case you want to hold a small gathering. 

I regret not bringing my SLR today, the place was just sooo picture perfect. Pardon the shots taken from my iphone, they’re not the best photos, but at least I tried. =) 

And for those who despise driving around the central business district (Makati), jump for joy as they are opening a branch in Ortigas tomorrow night, Sept 22 2010.  For those who live in the south, the Makati (and the original) branch is your best bet. Nothing beats the original, right?

Trivia: Michael is actually the son of the owner.  I heard that when they built this restaurant  about 10years ago, he was really fat,..

but not anymore. =)
